energyalmanac.ca.gov] ) If some of the major energy wasters in other states would wake up to a bit of conservation, usage drop (according to the supply/demand fantasy) would smooth out cost. Meanwhile those of us w/ > 2 digit IQ who put solar PV on our roofs will be buying less electricity from the generators further cutting the need for ANY fuel. While I do not have the actual ##, I believe it is well established that electrified railroad operation is more efficient than diesel on many measurements. Assuming major solar generation, regen braking, and the large proportion of commuter service during daylight, electrifying Caltrain should reduce net energy required to move each rider. What's wrong with that?
