I think we can agree on that point!
Family had a Studebaker in the mid-50s that was a real junker. Dad hated it, styling or not; no idea why he bought it. 57 Chevy wagon was much better (except for the brakes, cooling, and rust) for hauling us kids around. He was always sort of safety-conscious: added seat belts to the Chevy when they became generally available in the early 60s.
I also vaguely recall the first smog-control for cars: PCV that had to be retrofitted to existing cars as well as provided on new ones, some time in the early 1960s (in California). I don't remember the Chevy working any differently afterward (it was my driving test car), but there were lots of complaints by others. Then there was our 68 Dodge (after the Chevy rusted out completely) that had California smog control: a different tuning setting that actually produced more NOx (and burned valves) than the national version, while only slightly cutting everything else. IIRC that got fixed pretty quickly after a bit of embarrassment of the infant ARB in the press.
