And of course to have a real transit line which might have at least some impact on traffic you would need to have headways of at least every half hour. All day. Clearly this dual mode jury rig would never work. It has to be one or the other - the SMART concept has too many inherent limitations. Let's wait a few years and see what the NCRA can do left to its own devices - and its own funds. SMART just looks like a money pit to me.
AS far as the grade separations are concerned it should be noted that the traffic on some of these streets has gotten much worse recently. Motorists are going to be really ticked about streets being blocked. For instance Washington Street in Petaluma sometimes is like bumper to bumper from one end to the other. It is like a freeway. I don't know where all the cars have come from. Maybe from Novato. ha.
