BOB2, you have a good point in tapping into the Modesto, Merced, Fresno market. ACE just proposed to start a new service to Manteca, Ripon and Modesto. At a cost of 400 million they are going to be giving a much needed service to a lot of commuters.
It seems like a better use of the money going to CAHSR should be going into making runs like ACE, the Capitol Corridor and the San Joaquins "higher speed" rail. A bunch of my co-workers who would have never used the train use ACE because it can match their commute time by car without the headache of being in stop and go traffic. But they didn't start taking it until the numbers got closer. The more trains can show a real commute time savings or convenience (better WIFI) the more people will be attracted to using it.
If worse comes to worse, can the segment of the CAHSR that they do build be used for a higher speed San Joaquin?
