Where between Bakersfield and Madera is there even a 1% grade? Madera is at 272 ft above mean sea level (83m) and Bakersfield at 404 ft (123m) a staggering climb of about a foot per mile. There is a small rise and dip in between (which is why lake Tulare exists in wet years), but to the eye the GCV looks flat flat flat.
