The one thing track circuits easily do which all others have extreme difficulty with is detecting broken rails.

When AFO track circuits first came out, GRS was flogging "Wee Zee" bonds, which were a lightweight impedance bond (read "cheap"). Why not go back to the low frequency scheme (i.e. 100 cycles)? OOPS, sorry, my bad, no royalties for the manufacturers.
