In regard to the last posting, I can only assume this individual is a "young gun" of steam, and is doing what they can to further the preservation of railroading.

As a steam mechanic and fireman on a relatively obscure narrow gauge steam railroad, I can say with knowledge, that operating and maintaining this equipment is about two percent glory, and ninety-eight percent blood, sweat, and tears. Unfortunately, young railfans seem to ignore this facet of operating a railroad, and through their very ignorance give all of us young guys a bad name.

Fortunately or not, the internet and social networking tools utilizing that resource are here to stay, and while being a great way to keep track of one another, they also serve as a very effective way to broadcast one's opinion -- intelligently or not. It is to that end that these young, oftentimes ignorant railfans allow themselves to be heard, and through that means give an impression of laziness and uncaring nature to all young individuals with an interest in railroading.

In keeping this brief (because, in being young, I do have a limited schedule) I implore all you older folk to ignore what these young railfans may broadcast about young railroad enthusiasts in general. Instead, take interest in those who are actually coming out to the various rail lines and showing a genuine interest in how things work, not just in which railroad crossing would yield the best picture for their collection.
