FACTS:
1) No one 40 years ago could have predicted the sheer amount of vehicles (cars and trucks and busses) and resulting traffic that is on the highway system (including local roads) that we see today.
2) Trucks pay more into the Federal budget than cars do via fuel taxes. Local/state rates vary.
3) The various government agencies responsible with overseeing and appropriating the funds received from the various fuel taxes (both cars and trucks) continuously and inappropriately drain money away from those funds for general use or special intrest purposes, leaving funds for the nations transporation infrastructure way way below the levels needed to maintain them.
