Would container traffic have saved the Milwaukee Road?

Does anyone know of a study that would have speculated on the fate of the Milwaukee Road's Western Extention had the railroad been able to hang on until the container boom? I'd think with all that land in the Tacoma Tideflats, the railroad would have been in a great position to gain a great deal of container traffic.
