Today's double stacks and auto racks top out at 20' 2" tall, which is much higher than the racks were back in those days, and,or course, stack cars hadn't been invented yet.
Some of you might benefit from reading a book called "The Nation Pays Again." It was written by a MILW official who was deeply involved in the pre-and post-merger things that went on and pretty much completely debunks the theories that MILW was offered all sorts of lucrative rights and routes. In fact, they pretty much got hosed.
Think it was written about the mid-1980's or late 1980's. Can't remember the author's name.
