From what I'm hearing the "oversized truck" was tailgating the vehicle running ahead of it and checking for clearance issues, and thus couldn't stop in time when it encountered the bridge. From there the truss simply failed and pulled the whole span into the drink.
In the past year, I've nearly been run off the road by 18-wheelers more times than I can count on both hands, the vast majority of which were due to the driver of the rig making a moving violation and the remainder of which were getting "shut out" of a merge by a convoy that was following too close. That's to say nothing of the truckers I've had to give an extra lane of clearance to because they were fishtailing or tracking too close to the line.
All I have to say is that I hope this accident calls more attention to the qualification of truck drivers, and is the catalyst for some kind of reform which leads to more scrutiny in hiring drivers or on their adherence to the rules.
