Be down for about a month. Feds have given State DOT 30 waiver so they don't have to jump through the usual hoops. Corps of Engineers working on it now. Only issue in replacement timeline will be if the concrete abuttments were heavily damaged as well. Getting the old section out of the river might be more complex than putting a replacement span in.
The poster who talked about the role of the 2nd truck is correct. The heavy hauler was doing what was legal and correct procedure. He was forced from straddling the two lanes, (which his pilot car was doing) by the 2nd semi....sorry, not a political correct type...the second rig was said to be a raghead out of BC...no surprises there. Heavy hauler was cooperating with all in charge and was aware of his clearances.
I live about 1/2 mile from the bridge, use it multiple times each day. I live on the Burlington side, but my place of work is on the Mt. Vernon side. Only a few ways to cross the river, so traffic is a bit of a challenge...but tolerable. This is nothing compared to say living in OK right now.
Fun to read some of these posts from people not in the area.....
