Go see the Sprinter, for a view of state of the ART DMU technology used by all "classes" of commuter. These are very substantial vehicles, with large loading capacity, and very good performance. Most real envrironmental groups also support rail freight as an alternative, so to most NWP isn't as much of a problem either. But, this is why the coalition of the nimby's and the wierd are trying to use this issue to torpedo SMART.
