Where exactly is the "freight service"? The way I see it no public funds no NCRA and/or SMART. And so far I don't see the great and powerful STB moving to trump that judge in Marin. And how come we aren't seeing Carl Icahn or some hedge funds coming forth to bankroll the sure thing that is the NCRA?
Freight trains are fine with me and the engineers can blow their horns as much as they feel is required. It is safer that way. I could care less about Novato's bogus sensibilities - the train sounds will help to mask the nighttime drone of the freeway. Besides Novato's notion of environmentally correct is that celebration of sprawl that is the Firemans Fund compound at San Marin. They are a devious lot though - their lawsuit is not just against NCRA but is also "fud" directed at SMART.
I just can't get excited about voting for SMART the way I am jazzed about the high speed rail project, which is the real deal. Maybe the best approach is to wait until the NWP is abandoned and start all over.
