Mr. Pechner is correct as regards the ability of todays railroad construction technology to completely rebuild the railroad infrastructure between Larkspur and Cloverdale in a much shorter time frame than six years. A project to rebuild U.S 101 would take at least that much time. The SMART project benefits even those in the parts of Marin County south of Larkspur by removing cars form 101.
If the commuting voters turn down SMART in the coming election, they will get just what they deserve: more years of commuting in untenable traffic.
