To me, involving the SP 4449 for this occasion is a no brainer. This is a rare special event in the railroads history and since they now own the Southern Pacific/Cental Pacific a famous steam locomotive that has operated on their mainline before for special events like the freedom train should be included. Doyle is a retired UP employee, has a proven track record and a professional team. For UP to contract the 4449 to have it make a special guest appearance so to speak would be nothing to them in cost. They are a huge company with deep pockets, it would just be call from a top manager to the western regional management saying: we want this engine as part of the celebration...what's the cost to get it from Portland to Sacramento to Ogden and return to Portland? Here is the money...you figure out the logistics and make it happen. Done.
