Fact is that a great deal of it is funded by the Fed, in the form of numerous and large subsidies to various legal "enviromental watchdog groups" - hence everything and anything draws a lawsuit. Of course, the defendants in these suits DO NOT get a dime of help. So much for equal protection of the law (once an American ideal), as these enviro-nazi vigilantes use the courts to cram their extremism down all our throats. There are other Fed funded groups in other subjects as well.
You all ask why we voters keep doing that to our selves - Good question! But the answer is fairly simple. Which party put that, and a lot of other idiocies into the law in the first place It started in the seventies, but it is still happening, even if somewhat slowed. Most of us would have to guess.
The media rarely reports on this stuff, and when it does it is usually only once, in a back page somewhere. Miss it - you're out of luck! We thus are left with only one recourse: each individual independently monitoring the many. But that is just plain impossible, even with access to the information - which we don't have.
We are dependant on a failed "Forth Estate", 88% of which belongs to a certain political party. Of course they see no need to tell us anything. The more we don't know, the more they will get their way - anyhow.
Now couple that with the great dumbing down of America in the public schools, especially in the subject of "Critical Thinking"; and you get a deliberately misled public, many of whom won't even notice they are being flimflammed. And are shocked and dismayed when and if they find out. I certainly was!
The only hope I can think of is a seriously radical Media Reform; coupled with a draconian change of course in our educational system. I don't know how to do that - or even exactly what reforms to make. But in the meantime, it will soon be "....turn out the light - the party's over"
