I forgot about Panoyer and another spot at the road that underpasses the tracks a mile or 2 west of Grass Lake--awesome long tangent heading straight for Mt. Shasta.
Also forgot about a couple of "unofficial" locations in the canyon south of Dunsmuir that I popped in to late enough in the evening to not be noticed.
Feather River Canyon: Used to be 3 "official" campgrounds. The ones at Belden and Twain were the best (Yes, I have actually used "official" campgrounds). Un-officials would be Williams Loop (I would guess that one to be off-limits anymore) and at the site of old Sierra siding between Keddie and Quincy Jct. (find a road that goes into the canyon from the back end of Oakland Camp). That might be gated these days, but there are a lot of fishing holes back in there that are not RR property, so you might be able to get in. Some weeks during the summer might be less safe based on which group is occupying Oakland Camp (used to be owned and used by the City of Oakland for "city folks" to get away to).
