No, the UP police are simply out-of-touch with reality, While they are in place to protect the UPRR property and their transported goods, beyond that scope, I have found them to be as though they are GOD themselves and teflon is their middle name. No corporation should be allowed to have such overzealous authority in place and beyound reapproach to the civilian sector. Whereas over at their competitor, BNSF, they act like one would expect without being of the same mentality of the UP police. Granted that trespassing on the RR property is an offense, the enforcement should be confined to just that: RR property. Nearly all (I believe) RR property along the ROW extends to about 50 ft. to either side of the railine itself and if one is outside of the area, is minding their own business even if that person is a railfan, the UP police should & needs to respect that and not be who they've become. Enforcement is one thing, but going beyond that without any oversight, resposiblity or control is just a system aligned with those 3rd world countries we all read about in the newspapers. I have had contact with both and I'll "side" with the BNSF over that of the UPRR. And yes, their on duty appearance does need some serious improvement as compared to the local city or county law enforcement persons. If the management doesn't care, why then should the trough feeder care ?
