I’ll be the first to say I trust cops less the older I get, but then again I’m from Chicago. Your local RR is hauling millions of dollars worth of freight as well as some pretty nasty stuff. When something happens to it THEY are the ones held responsible in the courts. Oh and remember that RR is also private property, not a museum. I know I get upset when strangers show up in my backyard and my local police department isn’t the fastest to respond when I call either. The courts have ruled numerous times that the police cannot be held responsible for failing to protect you from a crime taking place against you. That’s also why I’m a big advocate of concealed carry.
Ever tried to get the local police involved in a RR matter? Sorry but most just don’t care. Never mind your local RR pays some of the highest taxes in your area, they get little in return when it comes to police services.
When’s the last time you saw a cop write a ticket for going around the gates? Most think it’s a RR problem and not worth their time. Most of the time the Chicago PD is only on RR property when they’re looking for a place to take a nap.
Having said all that Drew, you really need to do your research first. RR police authority varies by state as well as the local prosecutors desires. That means in some states that are the equivalent of the state police and are expected to act accordingly. Some areas don't care what the RR cops do. Some expect them to act out if they see a crime being committed off RR property, others areas want them to stay on RR property only. They are only as good as they are supervised. I suspect if you have a REAL problem with them, most RR’s would want to know about it.
