Poor Patty, late for school again....
Of course, these toxic hot spots are actually very likely to be eligible for superfund clean up funding, but, then, all too often, that's not the real agenda, is it? Yes, we should develop a real plan for the needed clean ups, and find appropriate funds to do it. But, this point of view has so many spins to it, that seem to have little to do with the viability of the railroad to Eureka, or even an effective way to actually clean up the toxics.
Wow, it turns out that even the economy of Humboldt Coutny has been depressed for 30 years because of this hand full of toxic sites? It's an economy that certainly doesn't suffer from a severe lack of efficient transportation? Maybe, she should see the list of toxic hot spots in urban Counties that need to be cleaned up, in order to clear title and develop, that didn't seem to inhibit the recent boom? When I see so many spins piggybacked on each other, it makes me immediately suspect, that this might have less to do with the professed issues, than the liklihood of a legal process shake down, cloaked in the name of environmentalism, looking for the nearest deep pocket to pick. The words "Novato lawsuit" in this bizarre thesis, merely add confirmation to that remote possibility.
