Re: Toxic cleanup must come before freight

There are bizarre arguments by rail supporters in this thread
Now we're being told not to worry about Island Mtn and
any environmental problems associated with mining because
the county, state, and federal overseers will make sure
there aren't any.
Aren't these are the same people NCRA proponents criticize for,
guess what, enforcing environmental laws?
Then when the business plan (submitted to a state agency)
of NWP is cited regarding the amount of mining that would
occur, well, we should ignore that too. NWP Co. was just
filling the pages.
Yet, we should believe the part of the NWP plan that says freight
is economically viable.
We hear from a Sierra Club member who in keeping track of all
the other environmental organizations is completely unawre that
his own club is adamantly opposed to freight operations north of
Willits. (Check this with the Sonoma Group Sierra Club.)
Couldn't we do better? Couldn't we agree on a set of facts
and arguments for and against and the let people choose which
side to take?
