Since I'm a SP&S Highline modeler and long-time fan, my favorite campsite would have to be Levey Landing Park in Eastern Washington. My 'railfan/camping' days at Levey go back to the late 1970s when I was just a kid; and finally ending with the closing of the line in 1988. I'll never forget one summer morning in 1981 at Levey when I got up really early and walked out next to the mainline. I was just 12-years-old and sight of golden light on those sagebrush-covered hills and then the train itself as it thundered up the Snake River is a sight I will never forget. During the summer of 1988, I would sit at Levey like I was haunting the place waiting for the ever-elusive Rodna Turn to show up. I never did catch it. I still drop in at Levey to this day, but I'm afraid my camping days there are history.
