Because CTC wasn't extensively used where I spent the majority of my career until the 1990's, signal suspensions weren't particularly common before then.
The ones I specifically remember were when SP's Martinez Sub was being converted to CTC. That was followed by the conversion of the Niles Sub. Later, there was a suspension when Amtrak added the Coliseum station, which resulted in the addition of two new Control Points and a controlled siding on the Niles Sub. The last time I remember one was when CP EAST OAKLAND was added, also on the Niles Sub, a year or two before I retired. For clarity, these are just the ones I operated on. I remember receiving train orders or track warrants for others, but they didn't effect the specific area I was operating on.
