LMAO... I had a bet with another retired friend I used to work with who also had experienced the joy of having the assignment to "coordinate" his agencies planning with the dysfunctional Medhe Morshead run CAHSRA fiaco for part of his career, that the Feds will only fund track, signals, and "maybe" electrification of the current bloated, gold plated, stranded 10 billion dollar investment from Wasco to Chowhilla, in the upcoming Federal funding round (Due in early September???).
The State Legislature has made completing this a "requirement" before they "runaway money train" get more State funding, and has refused to provide more money to proceed with more gold plated waste in starting the ludicrously costly Pacheco segement.
I suspect that since USDOT has been unwilling to embrace the "runaway money train" publicly, that they will only focus on finishing the current 119 miles and follow the CA Legislatures lead. Feinstein's current condition and increasing inability to provide either support or cover to the CAHSRA fiasco politically means that no one in the DOT has anything to lose by stalling further CAHSRA waste and gold plating, and free's up funding for things like Del Mar Bluffs and Brightline, which are not as controversial, at least until the CAHSRA can actually finish the current gold plated 119 mile segment.
The ACE/San Joaquin Corridor project to connect to the current "beached" CAHSRA "whale" running from Wasco to Chowchilla is likely going to be fully funded. And is now being referred to as "Plan B". And despite the earlier dubious posting, about cross platform connection to the CAHSRA fiasco, the only trains likely to run on the current 119 miles (if tracks and signals are funded by the Feds) will be San Joaquin's doing 125 with Siemens Chargers. This is the only real option for quick service within five years, and would require "no" cross platform transfers withthe ACE/UP corridor extension.
If the Feds also give the CAHSRA Wasco to Chowchilla segment money for elecrirication, then CA might want to consider getting some 150 mph. capable dual mode Siemens like Amtrak is ordering for branching off of the NEC,which would allow sustained 140 mph service from Chowchilla to Waso on the current stranded investment.
