BOTH the San Jacinto Industrial Spur and the line to Monterey will / would have to be completely rebuilt from the ground up. The SanJac is presently good for about 10 MPH. They want to run commuter trains on it at least four times that speed if they leave it unsignaled. It's agreed. Both lines would have to be completely rebuilt. This bridge that everyone is wringing their hands over isn't exactly the Firth-of-Forth bridge.
Bottom line is, it's NOT an insurmountable project. It COULD be done. I had no idea there were so many "railfans" here on Altamont Press who are so opposed to a rail project. There must be an untold story here as to why everyone is so quick to throw cold water on this idea. Are you all car salesmen? Do you work in the highway construction business? A bus company, perhaps?
I don't get it.
