Mook knows very much what he is talking about and since he brings up the issue of the Elkhorn Slough, some may recall that sometime in the past 10 years (since we have lived here) the UP had a major problem with a culvert/bridge whatever in the middle of the slough and had to do, I believe, a total rebuild. It took weeks, maybe months and for the entire time, there was a 24/7 environmental watch stationed at the site to make sure the habitat and critters were not in any way affected and UP paid for that "service". If by magic there is the possibility of traffic, be it px or freight, increased below WVJ, the slough will forever be single tracked and a bottleneck unless of course, one can reroute the tracks and avoid the slough altogether. Now THERE is a fun problem to contemplate!! :-) Anyone want to start plotting new routes south of Gilroy?? :-)
