Ain't that the truth...
When I was a kid, a teen, even a young man, I always assumed those who loved trains were those who supported them.
If you truly believe in a zero sum society where no matter what you spend your money something else gets robbed, crap - we as railroad enthusiasts might as well fight for those choochoos.
But as most economic theorists have blown that idea to smithereens anyway and long ago proven that expenditure on infrastructure results in huge windfalls down the line - we as railroad enthusiasts have all the more reason to fight for the choochoos.
Sadly - the draw and joy of being a cynic who hate everything is too great for some.
By the by - don't get me wrong - if you asked me to bet, what are the chance of there being a passenger train from San Fancisco to Monterey in my lifetime I would say they are ZERO to NONE.
Doesn't change the fact that connecting a metro area with 7.2 Million people in it to a railroad-reachable location with a 2.2 Billion annual spend in tourism is a good idea.
Let's see one person here stop talking about a bike path or a Cosco parking lot or NIMBY lawyers how are outnumbered by the thousands by those in San Francisco and San Jose and start looking at real numbers.
Will it happen? Nah - the RR won't be built either. Not a single one of us posting here are anything but railfans with opinions - sitting here yelling at each other as if convincing a one of us could do anything! Won't change a rear-end hair on a dead possum.
