Carbuilding in the US has always suffered boom and bust cycles. The old-time business model (St. Louis Car Co. for example), learned to survive in the face of this. Others, Niles Car Co, McGuire-Cummings, Kuhlman, Brill, did not. When a market shows downturn, today's MBA's fold up their tents and leave. Thank the Whiz-Kids for this turn of events. When the N-S bi-level cab cars failed the crumple zone tests, N-S announced it's intention to get out of the business. However, they committed to completing a bi-level coach order which was already underway. Thus, this is sort of old news.
