You've got to be kidding. Shoplifting? Gay? Tax Liens? What's next you clown- Witch Trials??? If you are suggesting that the only way we can safely run trains is if EVERY EMPLOYEE who could affect the movement of trains MUST BE WITHOUT ANY KIND OF PERSONAL PROBLEM WHATSOEVER. Anyone who subcribes to your line of thinking has absolutely NO IDEA what it is to work in this industry. Guess what smart guy- IT'S LIKE EVRYWHERE ELSE. There will ALWAYS be people who shouldn't be in their line of work. There will ALWAYS be alchohlics, shoplifters, drug abusers, wife beaters, child molesters and the generally DUMB. You proved it right away. I can't believe what I read in your posts. What the hell do you think this industry is? Military Airlift Command/Special Operations Group? Navy SEALS?
Fact: No one will ever prove he was or was not distracted by ANYTHING, including texting, birdcrap on the window, people throwing rocks, or ANY OTHER DAMN THING THAT HUMANS CAN GET DISRACTED BY. I'm sure you've NEVER missed your off-ramp, made a late payment or forgot something at the store. Here's a GCOR question for you: Call and Observe Signals...that rule requires crewmembers to communicate to each other signals that, in essence, require a more restrictive operation. Like coming up on a flashing yellow, hard yellow or red. Amtrak and Metrolink do this all the time over the radio. Did Sanchez call out a RED signal? No. Did he call out an Approach indication? No. He went as though it was clear. Maybe it was. In my time, I've personally seen one false clear indication at UP Hobart Tower, and have had my employer admit to another false clear at Pittsburg in 2007.
People, GET A GRIP! Like that sopping-wet emotional moron from Metrolink who came right out and said their engineer blew by the signal, you can speculate and stab at it all you want. But until you've spent a lot of time in the seat, you've got about enough authority to decide whether a man's tax lien or shoplifting convictions will determine his competence to run a little commuter train as I do telling someone how to fly a 747.
Shoplifting...sheesh!!!
